Remembering Karel Čapek

(This article expired 06.05.2018.)

90 years ago, Karel Čapek, one of the best known and loved figures of Czech and European literature, described his amazing experience of travelling through the United Kingdom of 1924 in his enchanting book “Letters from England”. His journey is marked by a couple of enthusiasts from the Czech Republic who decided to recreate his travels in a fashionable vintage Škoda Popular convertible of the period.

Before the celebratory departure on its adventure through the beautiful British countryside and towns visited and described by Čapek, the Škoda Popular was displayed in the courtyard of the Czech Embassy standing beside its much younger sibling and recent addition to the family, the Škoda Octavia vRS. More than 120 guests, including the Czech Culture Secretary Daniel Herman and Ambassador Michael Žantovský, were present to wish bon voyage and later to talk about Karel Čapek, his life and the times he lived in.
