Czech students awarded by the Duke of Edinburgh

On 16th May 2016, two Czech students were given the Gold International Award of the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) in Buckingham Palace.

The International Award of the Duke of Edinburgh, husband of Queen Elizabeth II., is a global award for students aged from 14 to 24 years, which motivates and supports them in their personal development. Young people set themselves goals in five areas - talent, sports, volunteering, expeditions and event with a stay - and with an adult mentor they strive to meet them. Throughout the world millions students joined the competition, in the Czech Republic 1300 young people are involved in the DofE. The foundation was founded by Prince Philip in 1956, thus this year it is celebrating 60 years of its existence. The Czech Republic has been engaged for 20 years already.

This year the Duke of Edinburgh awarded a total of 1000 young people who met the Gold, the highest and most demanding, level of the program. There were two students from the Czech Republic among the winners - Tereza Fojtíková, representing the 1st International School of Ostrava, and Roman Jordán from Gymnasium of J.V. Jirsík in České Budějovice.

The Czech students were subsequently received by Czech Ambassador in the UK Libor Sečka at his residence. He passed them his sincere congratulations on receiving such an important award. He also thanked them for their outstanding representation of the Czech Republic and wished them luck in their future endeavors.

The meeting was also attended by Jiří Zrůst, manager and investment banker who supports the DofE for many years, Táňa Micková, leader of the DofE at the 1st International School of Ostrava and R. Jordán´s mother.
