(This article expired 31.12.2020.)

On 7th June 2016 selected companies from the spa and medical tourism trade in the Moravian-Silesian Region gave presentations at the residence of the Czech Ambassador in London. The Ambassador, H.E. Mr Libor Sečka, warmly welcomed the guests and the Czech delegation after which he gave the floor to the experts from the participating companies.  The event was attended by British journalists, representatives of UK travel agencies and experts from the medical and other professions.

The event was organised by the CzechTourism Agency, in close collaboration with the Moravian-Silesian Regional Council and the Czech Embassy. The presentation was opened by the Regional Council president, Mr Miroslav Novák who said ‘the Moravian-Silesian region has many top quality spa facilities which are visited annually by patients from many western European, Middle East and Gulf State countries. We are delighted to offer this quality care and treatment to British citizens.’   His speech was followed with introductions by representatives of the attending companies: Sanatorium Klimkovice, Darkov Spa, Agel, Leoš Janáček Airport in Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Tourism Ltd and the Kovotour Group, which owns many spa and tourist facilities in the area (i.e. Čeladenka, BODiZ, Nerest and Hotel Odra).

The aim of the Moravian-Silesian Region presentation was to significantly increase the number of UK tourists to the region. According to available data, approximately six thousand travellers from the UK visit the region every year, and this was an ideal opportunity to focus their attention to the possibility of medical tourism as well as the other health, nature and sporting benefits of holidaying there.

A great emphasis was also placed on presenting the natural beauty of northern Moravia and Silesia as well as the spa, medical and recreational facilities found locally. The advantage, that British guests highly appreciated, is the direct flight link between London and Ostrava, meaning you can be in the region in less than two hours.

At the end of the event, the guests and participants had an opportunity to network over a buffet dinner which also consisted of regional specialties. The guests particularly liked the famous and very tasty Marlenka produced in Frydek-Mistek.  Several dozen representatives of the tour operators and, travel and medical journalists reviewed the presentation as successful. They particularly showed their interest in the quality of the accommodation, the curative treatments, the types of diseases and illnesses that can be most effectively treated and the recuperative treatments for conditions such as strokes which can be treated by the specialists in the Moravian-Silesian Region.
