(This article expired 25.04.2016.)

"Europe Then and Now" was the title of the second edition of the Central European Symposium that was held on April 18 at UCL in London. The event was organized by UCL, together with the Embassies of the four Visegrad countries, plus Slovenia and Austria. The participants focused their contributions on the changing role of Central Europe since the fall of the Iron Curtain, and on the assets the region has to offer to the rest of EU. This year´s keynote speaker was former Austrian Vice Chancellor Erhard Busek, who now serves as chairman of the Vienna Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe. The Czech Republic was represented by Professor Jan Švejnar, Columbia University New York, who presented his ideas on the moral society.
