Czech Foreign Minister in London

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Mr Karel Schwarzenberg visited London on March 6 - 7. Mr Schwarzenberg participated in „Friends of Yemen“ meeting hosted by the British Foreign Secretary William Hague. In the House of Lords, he exchanged ideas on Europe with Lord Boswell, Chairman of the European Union Committee. In Oxford, he met with Czech students to discuss current issues. At a dinner hosted by Lord Weidenfeld, he met with British policymakers and men of letters. At the Czech Embassy, Karel Schwarzenberg opened a panel discussion on Jan Masaryk, former Czechoslovak Foreign Minister and Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Wednesday March 6

At a breakfast hosted by Legatum Institue, Minister Schwarzenberg participated in a round-table debate with representatives of British think-tanks and media. Europe and international politics were the main topics.

In the House of Lords, Mr Schwarzenberg exchanged ideas on Europe with Lord Boswell, Chairman of the European Union Committee.

At Oxford University's Exeter College, Karel Schwarzenberg met with Czech and Slovak students for an informal discussion on current issues.

A dinner hosted by Lord and Lady Weidenfeld in honour of Minister Schwarzenberg was a unique opportunity to meet with distinguished British policymakers and men of letters. Among guest were William Hague, UK Foreign Secretary, and playwright Tom Stoppard.

Thursday March 7

Minister Schwarzenberg participated in the London Friends of Yemen Ministerial Meeting held at Lancaster House from 9:45 to 15:00. This was the fifth meeting of the group of countries which is working to support a successful political transition in Yemen.

In an emotional statement Karel Schwarzenberg opened a panel discussion on Jan Masaryk, former Czechoslovak statesman and diplomat. The conference Remembering Jan Masaryk organised by the Czech Embassy and The Forum of British, Czech and Slovak historians marks the 65th anniversary of the death of the former Czechoslovak Foreign Minister and Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
