Minister Schwarzenberg visited London (October 12-13)

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Mr Karel Schwarzenberg, visited London on October 12-13. He met with Foreign Secretary William Hague. Minister Schwarzenberg gave a speech at Chatham House on the role of smaller EU Member States in the Post-Lisbon environment. At dinner and at a round table discussion at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue he met with British policymakers, intellectuals, businessmen, members of academia and media editors. At a ceremony at the Czech Embassy, Minister Schwarzenberg presented Sir Tom Stoppard with Gratias Agit Award.
Wednesday October 12
Minister Schwarzenberg met with Foreign Secretary William Hague (at the FCO from 10 to 11 am). They talked about current political issues – the situation in the Eurozone and perspectives for its settlement. They also discussed energy policy, the EU multiannual financial framework and developments in the Middle East and North Africa.
At a dinner hosted by Lord Weidenfeld Minister Schwarzenberg met with distinguished British policymakers, businessmen and members of academia.
Thursday October 13
Minister Schwarzenberg participated in a round table discussion hosted by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (from 9 to 10 am). Among the participants were representatives of British think-tanks and media editors. The discussion focused on the European integration and its future.
At Chatham House (from 1 to 2 pm), Minister Schwarzenberg discussed the role of a centrally located, medium-sized, non-eurozone EU country such as the Czech Republic in the Post-Lisbon EU. The discussion was chaired by Lord Wallace of Saltaire, Government Whip and Spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
At a ceremony hosted by Ambassador Žantovský at the Czech Embassy on October 12, Mr Schwarzenberg presented Sir Tom Stoppard, the distinguished British playwright, with Gratias Agit Award for the promotion of the good name of the Czech Republic abroad.
