When Sir Nicholas arrived at the Embassy he received a standing ovation. He said he had not expected so many people to show up, some of them travelling to London from very distant places. The Czech Ambassador Michael Žantovský conveyed wishes from the President, the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, and he presented Nicky with a beautiful home-made birthday cake with 105 candles and a bouquet of flowers while the guests sang Happy birthday to you.

Sir Nicholas enjoyed his birthday party with a smile on his face and showed no signs of fatigue despite the never ending attention of almost one hundred well-wishers.

Nicholas´s birthday party was also an opportunity to launch new book about his outstanding life: “If it´s not impossible” written by his daughter Barbara Winton. Photographs by Dana Pšenicová.
