Prime Minister Petr Nečas visited UK on February 29 - March 1

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Mr. Petr Nečas, visited London on February 29 - March 1 for talks with Prime Minister David Cameron. In the course of the visit, the Prime Minister spoke at the London School of Economics and Political Science about the Single Market and economic growth in Europe. At a round table discussion on investment opportunities and the business environment in the Czech Republic Mr. Nečas met with representatives of the City of London. On 29 February, Mr. Nečas attended an evening commemorating Václav Havel, the former president of the Czech Republic who passed away on 18 December 2011.

Wednesday February 29

Prime Minister Nečas gave a speech at the London School of Economics entitled: The Economic Growth in Europe: Resuscitating the Single Market (LSE, Old Theatre 5 - 6pm). The following discussion was chaired by professor Janet Hartley.  You can find the transcript of Prime Minister´s speech on LSE web. On Wednesday evening, the Czech Prime Minister attended as a guest of honor an evening of theatre, readings, photographs and music in memory of Václav Havel, the former Czechoslovak and Czech president, author, playwright, human rights campaigner and a prisoner of conscience. The evening hosted by Ambassador Michael Žantovský and Sir Tom Stoppard was held at the Royal Institute of British Architects and attended by four hundred distinguished guests. Prime Minister Nečas addressed the audience with a personal message.

Thursday March 1

Prime Minister Nečas participated in a round table discussion chaired by the Lord Mayor Locum Tenens, Alderman the Lord Levene of Portsoken KBE (Mension House 8.30 – 9.30 am). The discussion focused on investment opportunities, potential growth areas and the business environment in the Czech Republic. Among the participants were representatives of the major financial institutions of the City of London.

At N°10 Downing Street Prime Minister Nečas met with Prime Minister David Cameron for talks about current political issues. Following their meeting Mr. Cameron and Mr. Nečas travelled jointly to Brussels to attend the European Council.

During his visit in London Mr. Nečas gave an interview to Financial Times (Neil Buckley) and CNN International (Richard Quest).
