Working visit of the Czech Parliamentary Committee

On 16-17 May 2011 members of the Election Committee of the Lower House of the Czech Parliament visited London.

The Committee has taken over the responsibilities of the Permanent Commission for Media which was not re-established after the 2010 Parliamentary elections.

The delegation was lead by the chairman Mr Václav Mencl MP participating were Mrs Ivana Levá MP (deputy chair),  Mrs Alena Hanáková MP and Mr Ladislav Skopal MP (members).

The Czech parliamentarians met John Whittingdale MP, chair of the Committee for Culture, Media and Sport of the House of Commons, and Damian Collins MP, member of the Committee. Among other issues they discussed the legislative frame of TV and radio public services.

Later they met Christopher Dawes, director for digital media at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to talk about media legislative which at present is a current issue in the UK. Green Paper of the Media Bill is to be ready later this year.
