Filmfest Closing Night
26.05.2012 / 01:39
On Thursday, May 24, 2012, the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Los Angeles concluded the first annual Czech Film Festival 2012. As part of the program, there was a Closing Night reception, screening of “Rhythm On My Heels” (2009), a Question & Answer with the director and cast, and concert featuring live performances of songs from the film. The event, a major success, was the culmination of coordination between the Consulate, the Czech Film Center in Prague, and the Italian Cultural Institute as organizers, and Milk & Honey Films, Prague Studios, Czech Tourism, ELMA, SVU, Becherovka Company, and the Czech Center in NYC as very generous sponsors.
Over 100 people attended the screening of the musical “Rhythm On My Heels” (Rytmus v patach), as a tribute to the late Czech author Josef Skvorecky on whom the film is based. Director Andrea Sedlackova was present to discuss her film, and featured actors Berenika Kohoutova, Marika Soposka, Margareta Hruza, and Jan Maxian performed live renditions of some of the most popular songs. They were accompanied by renowned Czech jazz artist Emil Viklicky on piano, who played with fellow musician and friend Benny Golbin on saxophone, Dustin Morgan on upright bass, and Richard Weller on drums and percussion.
The final event concludes the 2012 Czech Filmfest as positively as it started, as an exhibition of modern Czech films as well as classic screenings from the 1960s Czech New Wave era. Beginning with “Walking Too Fast” (2009) on May 17, director Radim Spacek presented his film and participated in a Question & Answer session after the Opening Night screening. A reception followed the discussion to further promote the Czech film industry. Throughout the week additional screenings and events spotted the festival, including another Q&A session with director Tomas Lunak of “Alois Nebel” (2011), a pajama party for surrealist classic “Daises” (1966), as well as the closing concert of “Rhythm On My Heels.”
We would also like to thank Cinefamily for their invaluable contributions in helping host and advertise the program.
