05.10.2013 / 00:37
On October 3rd, 2013 was launched in California an international student competition called "Solar Decathlon 2013", in which students from Czech Technical University compete with their project “AIR House” along with 18 other houses. Solar Decathlon is organized by the U.S. Department of Energy and NREL, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The selected University teams from around the world are asked during the show's final to design, build and operate energy self-sufficient house.
Students worked on the project for almost two years. The Czech competition structure is part of solar town in Orange County Great Park in Irvine which has grown during the last fourteen days of September in a former U.S. air base in El Toro Marine Corps, 30 miles from Los Angeles.
In a solar town in Orange County Great Park will be held tours for the public from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily:
- Thursday, Oct. 3 – Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013
- Thursday, Oct. 10 – Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013
Czech students will meet competitive teams and the House will be considered by the jury. All buildings will be evaluated in 10 disciplines. The winner is the team that reaches the highest sum.
Participation in the competition gives university students a great prestige and rewarding experience. Transportation of the building halfway across the globe, build and launch, is already a big win for the Czech students. Around 400 students from 15 U.S. teams, two Canadian and two European (Czech and Austrian) participated in the contest with the construction of 19 houses.
Official results for Solar Decathlon 2013 will be announced on Saturday, October 12.
