Students from Czech Technical University won the bronze medal!

A team of students from Czech Technical University in Prague from the Faculty of Architecture was awarded the 3rd place in the overall competition in Solar Decathlon 2013. The results of the international competition were announced on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Orange County Great Park in California.

The selected university teams from around the world were asked to design, build and operate an energy self-sufficient house. Two teams from Europe – Czech on 3rd place and Austrian on 1st, shined at the Solar Decathlon 2013. The Austrian team won with the Czech students many other awards in various disciplines.

The Solar Decathlon competes in all 10 disciplines, all mutually related and influenced. Czech team won 1st place in Architecture and Energy balances, 2nd place in Technology and 3rd place in the Market attractiveness, Comfort and Warm water.

The AIR House is a building designed for two very different climates, independent of energy, inspired by Czech weekend country-houses and designed for the 50+ generation. The whole house is made of wood and it gains all the energy for its operation from the solar radiation.
