Foreign and Defence Ministers of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovak Republic – the Visegrad Group countries - have adopted a declaration relating to current NATO issues called "Responsibility for a Strong NATO" . It has been prepared on the eve of the NATO summit in Chicago and officially presented in the NATO HQ on 18 April.
Enclosed please find the text of the declaration, which reflects the responsible approach of the V4 countries relating to the preservation of NATO in the future. The structure of the text follows the importance of the themes from the point of view of the V4 countries: 1. the capabilities/collective defence, 2. crisis management (Afghanistan), 3. partnership and the open door policy.
The declaration is a V4 countries message about the importance of a constructive approach vis-a-vis maintaining and construction of the transatlantic ties. V4 countries emphasize the Smart Defence initiative as an important driver for maintaining and increasing our collective and national defence capabilities; this is not a pretext for further cuts in national defence budgets. Our efforts in NATO and the EU fit into one complementary approach.
