HRC27: Czech Republic concerned about crisis in Ukraine

The Czech Republic expressed concern about the human rights situation in the East of Ukraine and in illegally annexed Crimea. Actions of armed groups with a devastating impact on civilians and civilian structures must stop, the Czech Republic emphasized at the interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights held at the Human Rights Council on 23 September 2014.

The Czech intervention called on all parties to implement recommendations contained in the reports of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, “while emphasizing that the implementation of the General Assembly resolution 68/262 [on territorial integrity of Ukraine] is the cornerstone of any sustainable and peaceful solution to the conflict”. The Czech Republic said it was worried about the deteriorating human rights situation in illegally annexed Crimea and condemned the imprisonment and illegal transfer of individuals from Crimea and Eastern Ukraine into Russia. In closing, it enquired the High Commissioner about measures to alleviate the life condition of internally displaced persons and to prevent the outbreak of a humanitarian crisis.
