HRC27: The Czech Republic on African situations

During the 27th Session of the Human Rights Council the Czech Republic addressed the human rights situation in the Sudan, South Sudan and the Central African Republic. In all cases the Czech Republic condemned the continuing violence and human rights violations and abuses.

During the panel discussion on South Sudan, the Czech Republic expressed its believe that the human rights situation merits establishment of a special procedure with a mandate to monitor and report on the situation in South Sudan to the Human Rights Council. It further focused on restrictions on freedom of expression, harassment and censorship of the media and civil society.

In the interactive dialogue with the Independent Expert on the Central African Republic Ms Keita Bocoum the Czech Republic welcomed establishment of a new transitional government and deployment of MINUSCA. It also welcomed the extension of the mandate of the Independent Expert.

In the interactive dialogue with the Independent Expert on the Sudan Mr Mashood Baderin the Czech Republic focused on government´s cooperation with local civil society organizations. It appreciated the extension of the mandate of the Independent Expert and the establishment of the National Dialogue.
