Civil society is „indispensable for any genuine attempt to ensure and sustain human rights for all“, the Czech Republic underlined at the Human Rights Council (HRC) panel on the promotion and protection of civil society space held on 11 March 2014.
The Czech Republic also underscored its continuous support for initiatives promoting an enabling environment for civil society and people’s enhanced participation in public affairs. Civil society is very important for the system of democratic checks and balances, stressed also the Czech Republic in its statement while asking the panelists to elaborate on how States could be encouraged to accept and support this checks-and-balances role of civil society.
