HRC26: The Czech Republic on freedom of expression, assembly and association

The Czech Republic participated in the Interactive Dialogue of the Human Rights Council with the Special Rapporteurs on the right to promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression and on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association.

In its intervention, the Czech Republic emphasized the importance of free and pluralistic media for the effective participation in public and political life, including in the electoral processes, and outlined the requirements set by the Czech legal system to ensure the objectivity, accuracy and balance of information provided by media.

The Czech Republic further focused on the countless examples of violation and abuse of the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association affecting groups most at risk, such as persons with disabilities; youth; women; LGBTI people; members of minority groups, and those who are defending their interests.
