HRC: The Czech Rep. on the interlink between free discourse and religious freedoms

The close interlink between free discourse and religious freedoms was stressed by the Czech Republic during the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief that took place on 12 March 2013 in Geneva.

In response to the latest report presented by the Special Rapporteur, Prof. Heiner Bielefeldt, on collective religious hatred, the Czech Republic concurred that the most effective way to combat false perceptions of other religions or religious followers is their exposure to public scrutiny in free discourse.

The Czech Republic further inquired whether a close and exclusive relationship between the state and one religion, that has inevitably an adverse impact on religious minorities, can in itself constitute an infringement of freedom of religion.

The intervention is at your disposal.
