Speaking at the general debate following an update by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights on the work of her office, Ambassador Kateřina Sequensová deplored the spree of violence in Egypt and called for independent and transparent investigation into killings and other human rights violations. "We call on Egypt to restore democracy and civilian government through an inclusive and transparent political process in accordance with international standards as a matter of urgency," she stated in the national statement.

The Czech Republic also praised the enhanced attention the Office of the High Commissioner was paying to the right to political participation. The Czech Republic considers political participation a cornerstone of the realization of all human rights and is preparing a thematic resolution to be tabled at the 24th session of the Human Rights Council.

Finally, the Czech Republic expressed concern over communal violence in Myanmar/ Burma and called on the High Commissioner to continue monitoring the human rights situation in the country whose transition process cannot be deemed as irreversible.

In its national intervention, the Czech Republic aligned with a statement delivered at the same debate by the European Union.
