The Czech Republic addressed the human rights situation in Iran

Within the Interactive Dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran Mr. Ahmed Shaheed, held in Geneva on 17th March 2014, the Czech Republic called on Iran to establish cooperation with the Special Rapporteur and thus allow him to receive the authentic information.

While appreciating the recent attempts of the Iranian government to engage with the international community, the Czech Republic expressed concerns over the reports about the persons who remain in some form of confinement, including the human rights defenders, political activists, lawyers, journalists, bloggers and student activists. The Czech Republic further stated that much needs to be done in the area of judiciary, including the independence of judges and safeguards for a fair trial.
