UPR18: Czech Republic makes 42 recommendations to 9 countries

The Czech Republic made a total of 42 recommendations to 9 countries under human rights scrutiny at the winter session of the Universal Periodic Review in Geneva (27 January-7 February 2014). Further, the Czech Republic sent all 14 countries under review advance questions seeking clarification on selected areas of concern. Both the questions and the recommendations made to New Zealand, Afghanistan, Chile, Cambodia, Yemen, Macedonia, Slovakia, Eritrea and Vietnam focused on priority areas of the Czech human rights policy and on the main challenges these countries face.

As a Troika member, the Czech Republic also assisted Yemen and Comoros throughout their UPR, contributing to their successful human rights scrutiny. In her capacity as Vice-President/Rapporteur of the Human Rights Council, Ambassador Kateřina Sequensová chaired the UPR sessions of Slovakia and Dominican Republic as well as the session adopting ad referendum the reports on the review of Dominican Republic and Vietnam.
