The Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture's main mandate is to visit places of detention in States parties in order to prevent torture and ill treatment. Its regular budget is insufficient to fulfil its duties.
The Czech Republic has decided to provide a voluntary contribution of 7.938 EUR to the Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture and of 7.938 EUR to the UN Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture.
Its regular budget is insufficient to fulfil its duties. The UN Torture Fund is of the main channels of aid that distributes voluntary contributions to victims of torture to cover medical, psychological and social assistance, as well as legal aid and financial support to torture survivors. Through this unique Fund, some 70.000 victims are reached on a yearly basis. In line with its human rights priorities, the Czech Republic traditionally supports the work of the Subcommittee and the Fund.
