Human Rights Council: The Czech Republic makes a statement during an interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights on her report on the human rights situation in Belarus

During its 20th Session the Human Rights Council held an interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights on her report on the human rights situation in Belarus.

In addition to the standard alignment with the European Union intervention, the delegation of the Czech Republic participated in the interactive dialogue with its national statement. The delegation expressed its concern about harassment and intimidation of human rights defenders and journalists. The Czech Republic called for unconditional release and full rehabilitation of the remaining political prisoners, including the human rights defender Ales Bialiatski and political activist Zmitser Dashkevich. Particularly worrying is the fact that Belarus still retains death penalty and carries out executions. The Czech Republic expressed its support to the establishment of a Special Rapporteur to monitor and report on the human rights situation in Belarus.

Full version of the statement made by the Czech Republic is attached.
