Human Rights Council: The Czech Republic condemns intimidation and reprisals for co-operation with human rights mechanisms of the United Nations

At the 21st Session of the Human Rights Council, the Czech Republic delivered a national statement at a panel on cooperation with United Nation´s human rights mechanisms, focused on the issue of intimidation and reprisals against co-operating individuals.

The panel was based on the report by the High Commissioner for Human Rights (No. 21/18, available at www.ohchr.org) which documented concrete cases of concern. Human rights defenders, civic activists and other persons were persecuted for different forms of co-operation with the United Nations mechanisms. The Czech Republic has strongly condemned all forms of reprisals as unacceptable and called on the international community to increase pressure on States that resort to these practices.

Full version of the statement by the Czech Republic is enclosed.
