Human Rights Council: The Czech Republic makes a statement during an interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights on her annual report

During its 19th session the Human Rights Council held an interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights on her annual report (2nd March 2012).

In addition to the standard alignment with the European Union intervention, the Czech Republic participated in the dialogue with its national statement. The Czech Republic expressed its appreciation for the important role the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) played during developments in the Middle East and North Africa. It also commended the Office on its support to the work of special procedures* and the functioning of the mechanism of Universal Periodic Review of the human rights situation in individual countries. It stressed the importance of freedoms of expression, assembly and association for effective protection of human rights.

* Special procedures" is the general name given to the mechanisms established by the Human Rights Council to address either specific country situations or thematic issues in all parts of the world.
