WTO welcomes new Members – Montenegro and Samoa

(This article expired 03.05.2013.)

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has reached total of 155 Members.

Montenegro has formally become 154th Member on April 29, Samoa will become 155th Member on May 10. After Slovenia (1995), Croatia (2000) and FYROM (2003), Montenegro is the fourth country of the former Yugoslavia to become a Member of the WTO. The economic and political significance for the Czech Republic is significant. Moreover, the importance of accession of Samoa should also be noted, especially as Samoa has a status of Least developed country. Montenegro and Samoa accession processes have lasted since 2004 and 1998 respectively. Accession documents were agreed and adopted by the 8th Ministerial Conference in December 2011. Consequently, both countries are becoming Members in 30 days after concluding their respective domestic ratifications.
