Daniel Korčák wins UPU’s letter-writing competition

Fifteen-year-old Czech Daniel Korčák wins this year’s International Letter-Writing Competition of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for Young People with his letter to the Odra, a river in Central Europe.

Daniel Korčák, who comes from Ostrava, Czech Republic, received the first prize for his Ode to the River Odra from the UPU’s Director-General on Friday, 15 November 2013. The letter-writing contest on the theme “Why water is precious” attracted about one and half million participants from 60 countries. The masterpiece was chosen by the verdict of the UPU’s international jury.

The UPU’s letter-writing contest aims at raising awareness of the role postal services play in the society, motivating young people to develop their skills in composition and the ability to express their thoughts.
