The current Director General of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) was nominated for appointment to the post of Director General for the period 2014-2020.
The victory was achieved already after the first round of voting as the other candidates received lower number of votes combined compared to the simple majority obtained by the incumbent. After the counter-candidates stepped down, Francis Gurry was selected by consensus and will be appointed by the WIPO General Assembly (May 8-9, 2014) to begin his new term October 1, 2014.
