WIPO: The Czech Republic coordinates regional group
18.02.2014 / 11:56
At the beginning of 2014, the Czech Republic has taken over from Poland the role of a coordinator of the regional group of Central European and Baltic States (CEBS) in World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Regional groups under the leadership of a coordinator form common positions.
The Czech Republic represents 17 WIPO Member States both in formal committee meetings and, in particular, in informal negotiations. 2014 is an important year for WIPO due to the election of a new Director General.
During its one year mandate, Czech Republic will assert its own and CEBS substantive interests, search for ways to limit the increasing politicization of the organization and seek compromise solutions among regional groups. Other coordinators in 2014 are or will become Japan, China, Republic of South Korea, Bangladesh, Uruguay, Venezuela and Belorussia.
