About the Permanent Mission
Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the UN, OSCE and Other International Organizations in Vienna is an integral part of the wide network of Czech diplomatic missions in the world. It is tasked with representation and promotion of the Czech interests in international organizations and/or their specialized agencies and bodies in Vienna.
Within the framework of United Nations (UN) bodies and agencies the Permanent Mission deals with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) and Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). These agencies operate in the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), which is situated at the Vienna International Centre (VIC).
Major part of the Mission's work is dedicated to the activities within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Meetings of its bodies take place in the Hofburg Palace in the centre of Vienna, whereas the Secretariat occupies the premises at Wallnerstrasse 6. The OSCE is the continuation of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe that began in Helsinki more than 30 years ago. It is a unique organization that deals with three main areas: politico-military, economic and environmental and human dimension. OSCE embraces altogether 56 participating States from Europe, North America and Central Asia. It is a forum for political negotiations and decision-making in the fields of early warning, conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation, and puts the political will of its participating States into practice through its unique network of field missions and institutions. Further well-known activities of the OSCE are elections and freedom of media monitoring.
Other International Organizations
The Permanent Mission represents the Czech Republic in several other international organisations and bodies, among others in international export control regimes, such as the Wassenaar Arrangement (WA) and the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). It also deals with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), in which the Czech Republic became a full member in 2001.
The Permanent Mission in Vienna is a middle sized diplomatic mission. For more details see "Activity and Structure of the Mission"
The Permanent Mission wishes to advise that it is not dealing either with the relations with the Host Country or consular/visa issues. Please address all your questions and requests to the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Austria.
