Dear visitor,

Welcome to the official site of the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the United Nations, OSCE and Other International Organisations in Vienna. The Mission represents and promotes the interests of the Czech Republic in several UN agencies and bodies, as e.g. in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND), UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) or Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). The United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), situated in the Vienna International Centre (VIC), is the seat of these agencies and bodies. For your information, another UN Office in Europe is situated in Geneva (UNOG). It is assessed that work in the UN bodies represents approximately one half of our overall activities.

The other half is dedicated to our work in the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Its meeting rooms are situated in the Hofburg Palace in the centre of Vienna. The OSCE Secretariat occupies a bulding at Wallnerstrasse 6. The OSCE evolved from the so-called Helsinki Process that had three dimensions: politico-military, economic and human. Today, the OSCE community consists of 57 participating States from Europe, North America, Central Asia and Mongolia. The Organisation's major role is conflict prevention and resolution, monitoring of the human rights accross the OSCE area, elections and freedom of media monitoring. The OSCE has also number of field operations in South-Eastern Europe, Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia.

The Permanent Mission participates in several other international organisations - in particular in the international export control regimes: The Wassenaar Arrangement and the Nuclear Suppliers Group. In addition to this, the work of the Permanent Mission covers the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). You may find more information in the section "Activities of the Permanent Mission".

The Permanent Mission in Vienna is a middle-sized diplomatic mission. We share the premises (a historical building at Penzingerstrasse 11-13 in the 14 th district) with the Czech Embassy in Austria. Its tasks, however, differ from those of the Embassy and its Consular Department. The Permanent Mission is not dealing either with bilateral relations with the host country or with consular or visa issues.

I thank you for your interest in both our work and institutions with which we are dealing. I warmly welcome all your questions, ideas and opinions you would like to share with us.
