Statement of MFA on parliamentary elections in Belarus

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic regrets the fact that in the parliamentary elections that took place in Belarus on September 23, many OSCE commitments were not respected and that the elections were not administered in an impartial manner, as stated in the preliminary statement of the OSCE observation mission.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls upon Belarusian authorities to bring the election legislation and practice in line with international standards.

The Ministry notes that the fact that opposition will not be represented in the new Chamber of Deputies, due to election process, further alienates Belarus from the principles of democracy.
