20th Anniversary of OSCE Minsk Group

(This article expired 05.04.2022.)

Minsk Group, founded in 1992 by OSCE (former CSCE) with an aim to negotiate resolution of the protracted conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Nagorno-Karabakh, celebrates this year its 20th anniversary.

On this occasion, the co-chair countries (USA, Russia, France) presented a joint statement, where they urge parties to accelerate peaceful resolution of the conflict. They furthermore attach high importance to the respect of Principles formulated in Helsinki Final Act (non-use of force, non-violation of territorial integrity and human rights).

This joint statement builds on the development during previous years. The joint statements of the three Presidents at L'Aquila in 2009, Muskoka in 2010, and Deauville in 2011 outlined elements of a framework for a comprehensive peace settlement.  On January 23, 2012, joint statement in Sochi, Russia, by Presidents Aliyev, Sargsian, and Medvedev expressed the commitment of the two sides to accelerate reaching agreement on the Basic Principles.
