Minister of Industry and Trade Mr. Martin Kocourek on visit to India and Sri Lanka

Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic Mr. Martin Kocourek visited India on 9 – 11 October 2011 and Sri Lanka on 14 October 2011. The goal of the visit was to foster mutual ties in commerce and business and to encourage companies and government agencies to share experience, information and services exchange. The main outcome of the visit was uplifting the current economic dialogue on Ministerial level from Deputy Ministers´ level and launch of new version of Škoda car „Rapid“ on Indian market.
Minister Martin Kocourek was accompanied on his vist by the members of Economic Committee of the Parliament of the Czech Republic lead by its chairman Mr. Miloš Urban, by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Mr. Milan Hovorka, Deputy Minister of Environment Mr. Ivo Hlaváč and numerous business delegation, consisting of 50 banking, financial and investment institutions, representatives of Confederation of Industries of the Czech Republic and companies from various fields, such as machinery, energy, engineering, mining, aviation, waste management, chemicals, houseware etc.
In India, Mr. Martin Kocourek met among others his counterpart Mr. Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce of the Republic of India with whom he discussed business opportunities and prospects for future collaboration. Mr. Martin Kocourek also held talks with Mr. Praful Patel, Minister of Heavy Industry, Mr. Prakash Jaiswal, Minister of Coal etc.
Minister Martin Kocourek addressed the business forum „Strengthening India – Czech Republic Economic Ties“. During the sessions, five Memorandums of Understandings for enhancing Trade and Investment between India and Czech Republic in the area of mining, brewery investment and machinery were also signed.
On the conclusion of the visit, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to India Mr. Miloslav Stašek organized a national reception, during which the new model of Škoda India „Rapid“ was launched and Czech regions, its cuisine and folklore has also been presented.
The main output of the Indian visit was the decision of ministers to uplift the current “Joint Economic Committee” from the Deputy Ministers level to Ministerial level. Minister of Commerce of India Mr. Anand Sharma promised to visit the Czech Republic in first half of 2012 and confirmed the Indian side’s interest to be the main partner at the International Machine Tools Exhibition in Brno in 2012.
In Sri Lanka on 14 October 2011, Minister Martin Kocourek and his delegation met the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mr. D. M. Jayaratna, Minister for Economic Development Mr. Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Petroleum Industry Mr. S. Premajayantha and Ministrer of Power Mr. P. Ch. Ranawaka. The ECCSL and Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic jointly organized highly attended "Czech and Sri Lanka Investment Meeting" for the members of Czech business delegation.
