Škoda Prize Finale 2012 hosted by the Czech Embassy

The Embassy of the Czech Republic was proud to host the “Skoda Prize Finale 2012” on 1 February 2013. The ŠKODA Prize is the largest and most prestigious award on the Indian visual arts scene, instituted in 2010 - 11 to recognize and reward an Indian artist responsible for the most outstanding exhibition, or other presentation of their body of work produced in the twelve months preceding. During a spectacular evening, the sculptur L N Tallur was announce the winner.
The finale held at the Embassy of Czech Republic on Friday, February 01, 2013 marked an important day for the Indian Art community. The ŠKODA Prize announced L.N. Tallur as the winner of its third edition. Art India announced Rohini Devasher as the winner of Art India Breakthrough Artist Award. Along with the trophy, L.N Tallur was awarded a cash prize of INR 10,00,000.
The evening consisted of a welcome note from Martin Da Costa (CEO, Seventy EMG), Sudhir Rao (MD, Skoda Auto India), Geeta Kapur (art historian) and Sangita Jindal (Jury member, Art India Breakthrough Artist Award at the Skoda Prize) and Chief Guest, William Kentridge. The Skoda Prize finale also featured music by the band Furbar Getto and also a special screening of the Skoda Prize film- a documentary on the shortlisted Top-4 artists of the Skoda Prize and their art practice.
The event was hosted by H.E. Mr. Miloslav Stasek, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to India. Expressing appreciation to the ŠKODA Prize property and congratulating the winner, H.E. Mr. Miloslav Stasek, said, "The Embassy of the Czech Republic is proud to host The ŠKODA Prize Finale 2012 which breaks away from existing art tradition and rewards new generation artists. It was a wonderful gathering of people with artistic background and the event was a delight, thanks to 70 EMG. I congratulate the winner; Mr. L N Tallur who I believe deserves the award for his truly interesting experimental work."
The ŠKODA Prize, an endeavor by ŠKODA Auto India and Seventy EMG, was instituted in 2010 with an aim to create an accessible platform to the artists under the age of 45 who are seeking a window of opportunity to showcase their brilliant effort while also creating a credible repository of Indian Contemporary Art. It recognizes cutting-edge work demonstrating vision, innovation, and a mature understanding of material and form. The Prize brings to public notice exciting trends in contemporary art, highlighting the output of established mid-career artists as well as new voices. Jurors of impeccable credentials, renowned patron institutions, a dedicated group of advisors, and a management team of proven capability back this prestigious award.
With the Prize, ŠKODA has bought an impetus to Indian Art scene and at the moment there is no other platform in Art, of any credible authority, that gives such recognition. The ŠKODA Prize has grown in stature and strength in the past two years and now with an entry into the third edition, The Prize promises to bring talents from across the country.
Chief Guest of the ebeny was Mr. William Kentridge, a South African artist best known for his prints, drawings & animated films. Jury was chaired by Mrs. Geeta Kapur, eminent Indian art historian and critic.
