Minister Kohout promised support to the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre

During his stay in South Africa Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Jan Kohout visited on 11 December 2013 the construction site of the Johannesburg Holocaust and Genocide Centre, where he met the Director of the Centre Mrs. Tali Nates and the Chief Architect Mr. Lewis Levin.

Children drawings from the Jewish ghetto in Theresienstadt will form an important part of the permanent exhibition, the assassination of the Deputy Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich and the destruction of Lidice village will also be commemorated there. The Minister promised assistance and support for the installation of an artistic interpretation of the Theresienstadt drawings on the main facade of the centre.

There are three centres of this kind in South Africa. Their mission is not only to commemorate the atrocities of the past, but to educate young generation about the dangers of indifference, apathy and silence and consequences of prejudice, racism, antisemitism, xenophobia and homophobia.
