(This article expired 15.11.2013.)

The Embassy of the Czech Republic started a collaboration with the Tshegofatsong special school in Mamelodi close to the capital Pretoria. Tshegofatsong is the only special school in the large area of Mamelodi inhabited by thousands of people.

The school is attended by more than 300 pupils with various kinds of mental and physical impairment (hearing and visual impairment, severe epilepsy, autism, cerebral palsy, attention deficit hyper activity disorder, psychiatric disorder, physical impairment, behavioral disorders). This facility thus fulfils a unique and indispensable role in provision of education for the children with impairment in Mamelodi.

The Embassy intends to develop a broad partnership with the school. The Embassy’s representatives have already visited the school twice to identify the most effective way of assisting it in its educational aims. The school teachers and its students have been invited to cultural events and functions organized by the Embassy (the performance of V. Havel’s play „Protest“ in Atterbury Theatre, 28 October National Day celebrations). On 2 November the Embassy of the Czech Republic delivered a box of picture magazines to the school for occupational therapy activities. On this occasion the Tshegofatsong school prepared a wonderful show of dance performances proving artistic mastery of its students.
