A small-scale local project carried out by Czech Agricultural University in Catabola of the Bié province in 2012 was aimed at ensuring better chances of long-term sustainability of the outcomes of its earlier development activities in the area of professional agricultural education.
Towards the end of the previous year, Vocational Agricultural School (EPAC) providing courses on general agriculture, animal breeding and machinery was officially handed over to the Angolan authorities. The school meets the educational standards established during reform of professional education in Angola. The EPAC succeeded in obtaining official registration on January 11, 2012. Importantly, provincial institutions also reached an agreement on its future financing. EPAC has currently 163 pupils and a place in the official professional education system in Angola. In the course of the year, the leadership of the school was changed by Angolan official authorities. Schools like EPAC in rural areas play an extremely important educational role and, provided that the basic requirements for its further existence are met, EPAC can contribute substantially to the local development on a long-term basis.
