Cooperation between the Czech Republic and Kosovo in the mining of minerals

(This article expired 28.12.2018.)

The contact between the Trepca Mining and Metallurgical Complex and Czech companies was re-established in 2013. Many of the Czech firms concerned contributed to the development of underground mines in Trepca already in the past.

In the primary stage, which took place in 2013, the most pressing problems were identified in collaboration with representatives of the Trepca complex, in order to enhance the recovery and restart some mining sites. In the preparation of technical measures to increase the mining in Trepca Complex were primary selected the locations in Stari Trg and Kišnica - mine shaft Ajvalija.

In cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Pristina and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic we succeeded to get the support from the program "AID FOR TRADE 2014" for developing of technical solutions for revitalization of these shafts.

The aim of this project is to suggest a program of further investment development of the Stari Trg mine, based on an analysis of the current status, and to make reserves available for the expected production of 500,000 metric tons per year for the next 20 years. The second part of the project is focused on the depletion of water from the Ajvalija shaft of the mine Kišnica and renewal of mining in this area.

In the short term, restarting the Ajvalija mine will prepare the ground for creating new job opportunities and will help to restore the infrastructure of the iron ore processing in the Kišnica mine.

The project is being elaborated by the Czech company "Báňské projekty Ostrava" and it will be finished in November 2014.
