On November 4, 2014, the seminar about Investment and Export opportunities in Kosovo in the mining sector and the extraction of minerals was held on the Czech MFA at the initiative of the Czech Embassy in Pristina. The Czech Embassy in Pristina, in cooperation with the Independent Commission for Mines and Minerals (ICMM) in Pristina and the general manager of Trepca complex, prepared a structured presentation of business opportunities in the mining sector and related activities.

The seminar was attended by 22 representatives of Czech companies focused on mining engineering, geological and geophysical exploration, and experts from the Charles University Faculty of Science. The seminar was opened by the Director General of the Economic Section at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ivan Jukl. For Kosovar, information was submitted by the CEO of Trepca complex Mr. Ahmed Tmava, Acting Chairman of the Board ICMM Ramiz Krasniqi and manager of the geological section of ICMM Sali Moulay.

Representatives of the ICMM provided concise information on prospecting conditions and obtaining licenses for mineral mining, legal protection of foreign investment in the mining sector, mineral reserves, the prospective areas for mineral extraction in Kosovo, and specific investment offers for Czech investors. The General Manager of the Trepca complex informed about the structure of mineral reserves and investment needs of the complex, including export opportunities for Czech companies. The representative of Báňské projekty Ostrava provided information on the implementation of the feasibility study on the revitalization of two shafts in Trepca. The study was funded from program “Aid for Trade” of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade. In the afternoon there had been detailed consultations between Czech companies and representatives of Trepca complex and ICMM commission.

A number of promising areas for geophysical and geological exploration, mining equipment supply, revitalizing of the flooded shafts, the revitalization of environmentally impacted areas, drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment were discussed on the seminar. The launch of the pilot projects can be implemented with support of the Czech Development Agency under the co-financing of feasibility studies. One of specific outcomes of the seminar is the project of revitalization of the Hajvalia shaft follow-up to the project  "Aid for Trade", which would bring multiplier effect for Czech companies, not only in the field of mining equipment.

The high participation of Czech companies in this special event reflects the interest of Czech companies to enter into a previously unoccupied market where it is still possible to build on the good name of our experts from the days of Czechoslovakia. Last but not least, the seminar manifested the mutual interest in further cooperation between Czech companies and the Trepca complex and the ICMM.
