It is rare for any fledgling director to succeed in making such a high-quality, lively documentary debut as the 19-year-old Roma Laura Halilovic has. With a small handheld camera, she documents the past and above all the present of her family, who came to Italy from Bosnia and Herzegovina at the end of the 1970s. Unlike Laura, many of her relatives, including her idiosyncratic grandmother, still travel around in caravans. It is obvious from the hateful reactions of the local population and the attitude of state authorities, however, that this nomadic way of life has already had its day in Europe, not to mention Berlusconi’s Italy. This cheerful and surprisingly inventive film with excellent music offers an unconventional view of the Roma people – from the very heart of this community itself. Humorously, the author also finds herself getting involved in the action when her family tries to force her to marry, which she refuses to do. Her dream is to become a filmmaker. She definitely has the talent to succeed in this field. If only Woody Allen would answer her letters...

Málokdy se začínající filmařce poštěstí natočit tak kvalitní a svěží dokumentární debut, jako se to podařilo devatenáctileté Romce Lauře Halilovicové. S malou ruční kamerou dokumentuje historii a hlavně současnost své rodiny, která přišla do Itálie koncem šedesátých let z Bosny a Hercegoviny. Na rozdíl od Laury řada jejích příbuzných včetně rázovité babičky stále kočuje v karavanech. Z nenávistných reakcí místních obyvatel a přístupu státních úřadů je ale zřejmé, že tomuto nomádskému způsobu života v Evropě, natož v Berlusconiho Itálii, již odzvonilo. Úsměvný a filmařsky překvapivě invenční snímek s výbornou hudbou nabízí pohled na romskou komunitu z netradičního úhlu pohledu - z jejího samého středu. Sama autorka pak vtipně vstupuje do děje v momentě, kdy ji rodina nutí se vdát, což ona odmítá. Jejím snem je stát se filmovou režisérkou. Talent k tomu rozhodně má. Jen kdyby ještě Woody Allen odpověděl na její dopisy…
