The seminar „Data Flows: Heartbeat of the Digital Single Market”

Date: 28 March 2017 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Venue: Brussels/Belgium

The seminar „Data Flows: Heartbeat of the Digital Single Market” will take place in the premises of the Czech Permanent Representation on 28th March 2017 from 10.00 to 12.00.

Data localisation restrictions in the EU and issues on data ownership, access to data and liability might lead to difficulties for both EU citizens and business, especially in a cross-border context. Having presented the Communication on Building a European Data Economy in early 2017, the Commission is currently considering future steps to ensure the free flow of data and explore possible solutions to a number of other legal uncertainties emerging in the data economy.

The seminar aims to bring together representatives of Member States, EU institutions and business community. The intention is to facilitate the discussion on whether and how local or national data localisation restrictions inhibit the free flow of data in the EU, how the EU can make the most of the DSM in its external relations and international trade, and whether the current legal framework with respect to rights on raw, machine-generated data is fit for purpose.
