The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Bohuslav Sobotka paid a first visit to EU Institutions on 20th February 2014 shortly after winning the vote of confidence in the new elected Czech Parliament.

Only two days after the vote of confidence and just 3 weeks after appointment of the Czech new government its Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka arrived in Brussels. He met EU Top Officials José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Commission and Martin Schulz the President of the European Parliament.

“The Czech Republic will be able to influence developments in Europe only if it actively participates in European structures” said Prime Minister Sobotka after the meeting with President Barroso. He also announced Czech accession to the fiscal pact, which is understandable step on the path to the euro adoption.

“The Czech Republic is returning to the role of an active and constructive member of the European family”, President Barroso said at a joint press conference. He also welcomed a change in the Czech government's stance on the EU.
