Czech Republic and Sweden sign Gripen agreement

On May 16, the Czech Republic and Sweden signed the new JAS 39 Gripen contract. The contract means that the Czech Republic will continue to lease 14 Gripen aircraft until at least 2027.
The contract was signed by the Czech Deputy Minister of Defence for Acquisitions Bohuslav Dvořák and Ulf Hammarström, Director-General of the Swedish Defence and Security Export Agency (FXM). The signing of the contract took place in a Gripen hangar at the Czech airbase in Čáslav. Both Czech Minister of Defence Martin Stropnický and Swedish State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Carl von der Esch participated in the ceremony.
The new contract will mean that the Czech Republic will lease 14 Gripen C/Ds for a
further 12 years. Training and upgrading of the aircraft are also included, as is all the necessary logistical and operational support needed to deploy the aircraft.
