(This article expired 10.04.2019.)

On 2th April 2014 was held in the Stockholm Europahuset expert seminar on the cooperation of the Danube macro-regional strategy and Baltic macro-regional strategy in the energy sector.

The half-day seminar took place under the Stockholm Initiative of the Visegrad Group under the auspices of the Hungarian V4 Presidency. The Czech Republic together with Hungary presides over the priority area of energy within the Danube Strategy and was represented by Vladimir Blaha, national coordinator of the priority area of energy within the Danube Strategy.

Energy security is of essential importance for Europe. Within the two existing macro-regional strategies for the Baltic Sea Region and the Danube Region, energy was included among priority areas, which contribute to effective solution of the energy issues. Baltic strategy was created in October 2009 to address issues related to the Baltic Sea region. The Danube Strategy was created in 2011 with the aim of contributing to the development of this heterogeneous region.

The characteristics of the two regions are different, but they both face similar difficulties regarding the energy sector. The seminar provided an opportunity to exchange opinions and experiences of the implementation of EU macro-regional policies in the field of energy. National delegates and experts discussed potential problems in the realization of the macro-regional strategy, shared practical experiences and reflected upon the future challenges in this field.
