Consul Hani Stolina and Vice-Consul Sarka Ponroy Vamberová honoured pre-war Czechoslovak citizen Mrs. Olga Horak, who recently received Order of Australia for her services to Jewish community.

During her visitation of the Czech Consulate on 7th February Mrs. Horak received heartfelt welcome and a commemorative silver medal of Jan Masaryk (former Czechoslovak Minister of Foreign Affairs). Mrs. Horak had just returned from Hong Kong, where she gave numerous speeches during the commemoration week of Auschwitz liberation. Sydney Jewish Museum’s guide and survivors’ association member said: “I am very pleased by receiving this award. History should be preserved, not forgotten and there are few survivors left who can talk about what happened during the war.”

Mrs. Horak  has worked for the museum since its inception 22 years ago. She is:

Member, Sydney Jewish Museum; Volunteer Guide, since 1992.

Board Member, Australian Association of Jewish Holocaust Survivors and Descendants Inc, since the 1990s.

Refugee Week Ambassador, Refugee Council of Australia, 2013.

Member, B’nai B’rith Women’s Chapter, B’nai B’rith Australia, since 1959.

Author, Auschwitz to Australia: Holocaust Survivor’s Memoir, published 2000.
