Writer and director Bohdan Sláma is an important voice in his home country and recently emerged onto the world stage with this, the first Czech feature to screen at The Sundance Film Festival (where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize). Four Suns tells the story of a group of eccentric individuals struggling to make ends meet. Jára and Jana are surviving the pressures of their relationship in a cramped apartment with their young daughter and Jára's teenage son from a previous marriage, Vena, who is heading straight towards delinquency. Jára's best friend Karel is growing stranger by the day but Jára holds tightly to his belief in his friend and his 'special powers'. In the vein of Mike Leigh, Sláma explores the ordinary with a tender veracity. The film celebrates the humanity of its characters; it avoids ridicule and plays on the humour of their daily life with a whimsical pay-off that will surprise viewers.

Cast: Jaroslav Plesl, Aňa Geislerová, Karel Roden, Jiří Mádl and Klára Melíšková.
