Czech National Day in Melbourne

On the occasion of the Czech National Day, Dr.Milan Kantor, the Czech Honorary Consul General in Melbourne hosted in the prestigious Melbourne Club some 240 invitees including the Governer of Victoria, His Excellency the Honorable Alex Chernov AC QC, the honorable Inga Peulich, MP and Sir Ninian Stephen, former Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia. The Consulate of the Czech Republic was represented by the vice-consul Šárka Ponroy Vamberová.

There was a significant number of the Czech community members. Honorary Consul General in his moving speech mentioned the historical milestones of the Czechoslovak history, the present economic situation and further he focused on the promotion of the 2014 Year of the Czech music. Ms.Peulich, MP acknowledged the work of Dr.Kantor for the Czech community as well as exemplary integration and contribution of the Czech emigrants to Victoria. She pointed out the peaceful Czechoslovak division 20 years ago, having herself the origins in former Yugoslavia.

Mr.Eduard Zlatý, a long-time active member of Sokol, played the violin both national anthems. All attandees sang the Czech national anthem ( the lyrics were provided), some of them with certain level of emotion and pride. The Consulate in Sydney thanks Dr.Kantor for such a nice celebration.
