10th anniversary of the EU enlargement in Auckland

Czech honorary consul in Auckland Gregory Shanahan with the head of commercial and economic section of the Consulate of the Czech Republic in Sydney Sarka Ponroy Vamberova organised a reception on the 1st May in the Skoda showroom to mark the 10th anniversary of the EU enlargement.

Apart of the majority of local honorary consular corps, there were diplomats from Wellington as well- H.E. Beata Stoczynska, Ambassador of Poland and Michalis Rokas,Chargé d' Affaires of the EU delegation.


Other hosts included representatives of the Czech New Zealand business association, EU - NZ business association, Czech clubs or a curator of  Art Gallery Auckland who just arrived from the Czech Republic where she was preparing upcoming G.Lindauer exhibition.
G. Shanahan in his opening speech mentioned the importance of Europe for New Zealand especially on the trade level and informed about the recent visit of the former prime minister of New Zealand in Prague regarding the NZ campaign for a UN Security Council seat in 2015-16.
Šárka Ponroy Vamberova focused on the historic milestone for the post communist  countries rejoining the free and democratic  world  of the European Union. In the spotlight of the Ukranian crisis, the peace and stability in the Eastern Europe has not been granted yet,the protection of democratic values is still needed and the European project is still alive.  In conclusion she shared the acknowledgment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic for the work Gregory Shanahan is providing to the Czech citizens and businesses and congratulate him to his promotion to the rank of honorary consul general that will take effect in a few months time.
