Since January 1, 2010, to collect approved visa for more than 90 days, all applicants are obliged to present a proof of their health insurance contracted with a company which is authorized to provide service in the territory of the Czech Republic. The receipt of payment of the contract must be presented at the same time. The list of recomended Health Insurance Companies with this authorization is listed below:

On the basis of latest experience of some travelers, we would like to remind to our clients their obligation to demonstrate ability to cover his/her medical expenses, in case of residence control exercised by the Alien´s police of the Czech Republic, which is mentioned in Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on the Residence of Aliens in the Territory of the Czech Republic. Therefore, all travelers are suggested to keep his/her confirmation of health insurance with him/herself for the whole period of his/her stay in the Czech Republic.

Starting from 1st of January 2009 all applications for long-stay visas / long-term residence permits must be additionally supported by an Extract from the Registry of Criminal Records or a similar document from the country of which the applicant is a citizen or from the countries in which the applicant resided for an uninterrupted period of more than six months in the previous three years. ( An extract from the Registry of criminal records is not required from an applicant under the age of 15)

You can apply for this type of stay if you intend to temporarily stay in the territory of the Czech Republic for a period exceeding 3 months and for the purpose of studying. The application for the long term residence permit can be filed at any of Czech Embassies/Consulates abroad. Howewer it highly recomended to file the application in the country of your origin.
